Build Under Extension Cannon Hill

Traditional Queenslander Home Build Under and Extension

Our clients came to us wanting to update their small cottage for their growing family.  They wanted to enclose under the existing footprint to include a new kitchen, living and dining area, main bathroom and extra bedroom.

We assisted our clients with complete planning and development, working with them to achieve a set of designs that would  not only suit their current circumstances but would suit their family as they grew.

We added a carport to the front of the existing cottage with an undercover walkway and path so access to the home was easy and our clients were out of the weather.

We reconfigured the existing upper floor to include a new master bedroom with ensuite and walk in robe, a second and third bedroom and a relaxed living room which flowed to the existing front deck, we added a new powder room to service the bedrooms and living area to the upper floor, keeping this space the traditional element of the home, using VJ wall and ceiling linings and polished timber floors throughout.

A new set of custom designed stairs were installed for access between the upper and lower floors, the new entry for the house was created downstairs.

It was particularly important to the clients that they had a set of stairs that created a feature to the new entry, we did this by creating a detailed balustrade that is both practical and beautiful to look at, to further add interest we used barn doors to the fourth bedroom and main bathroom and changed the style of the ceilings to the main lower floor living and kitchen and dining by framing them down and square setting to finish.

To further extend the living space and create a free flowing area to the lower floor by linking the rear of the house to an existing shed, we achieved this by adding a roof between the two structures and kept an open feel by using exposed rafters to the underside of the roof.

Large timber bifold doors were used on both the rear of the lower floor and the front of the shed to make it look and feel seamless in design and as if the shed was part of the house. We took the old shed and refurbished it with internal and external new linings and added a gas fireplace and study desk, it can double as a studio or media room, the concrete floors to all the lower areas were honed and polished.

Our clients have the perfect way to entertain friends and family between the two buildings in their new indoor/outdoor spaces with not only access to the main kitchen but a BBQ area.

We were able to achieve a bespoke renovation for our clients, this site had a number of constraints and we worked with our Town Planners, Certifiers and Designers to achieve a wonderful family home on this small lot that is not only still true to it’s traditional character but with a modern twist that’s bold in it’s statement.
